Cocora Valley (1 day)

Difficulty:  LEVEL 2. MODERATE

Ideal for first time mountaineers. Accessible for all those in good health, who do some exercise regularly and who are accustomed to walking for extended periods of time. Walks from 5 to 6 hours each day (with regular, short breaks), distances between 6 and 10 kilometers per day (≈4-6 miles) along mostly flat, sometimes muddy, undulating paths. The elevation change can exceed 500 meters (≈1,600 ft), with an altitude of 2,000+ meters (≈7,000+ ft) and with little weight to carry.

Meet us at 7.30am at the Paramo Trek office, where we jump onto the region’s traditional transport (private), the ‘Willys’ Jeep, for a 25 minute journey to the Cocora Valley and the start of our walk. We begin at an altitude of 2,390 meters looking at the striking landscapes and ecosystems such as, the farmland, wax palm forest and high Andean forest. We will make our way towards the Acaime Nature Reserve and ‘La Montaña’ Nature Reserve- both famous for the abundance of hummingbirds, orchids and other marvels of nature. A typical and delicious lunch is included in the price and the tour finishes back in Salento at the Paramo Trek office .

• You will need appropriate shoes for this route (no sandals/flipflops)
